The UNFC annual federal council meeting was successfully held from December 7 to 10, 2015. The departments submitted their annual activity reports, which were reviewed and adopted. Moreover, the election of new officials for the vacant positions was carried out by secret vote, and decisions relating to future work programs were taken.

1. The United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) recognizes the work and effort made by the Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team (NCCT) for more than a year.

We all know that members of the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC), together with fraternal ethnic armed resistance organizations, have been endeavoring by various means, with the specific intent of ending over 60-year-long civil war in Burma/Myanmar and resolving the political problems, through round-table talks and consultations with successive governments, and now the Nationwide Ceasefire Coordinating Team (NCCT) and the Union Peace-making Work Committee (UPWC) are holding talks for realizing the signing of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement.

The United Nationalities Federal Council strongly condemns the violent attacks, repression, and arrest of students and civilians who demonstrated peacefully for the amendment of the national education law to have democratic education, by plainclothes civilians, who wore armbands emblazoned with the words duty and disciplines and were utilized by the government, near the city hall in Rangoon on March 5, 2015.

On the auspicious and historic Union Day, which has conceived the Union and which falls on February 12, our UNFC is desirous of finalizing the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement draft without delay, with the intent of supporting the current internal peace building process, for the signing of it and starting political dialogue and negotiations to resolve the basic political problems by political means.

The United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) recognizes Union Day, which falls on February 12, as an auspicious and historic day on which all the ethnic brothers, with true aspiration and objective of living together in coexistence in a free, just and prosperous society, vowed and concluded together an agreement, at Panglong Town in Shan State, for the establishment of a Federal Union.

The UNFC is the latest coalition of ethnic armed organizations. It was renamed and reformed from the Committee for the Emergence of Federal Union (CEFU), founded in Nov. 2010. The UNFC wants to represent all of the ethnic armed forces during peace negotiations with the government.
